Project Description

This project involved the study, design, and preparation of contract plans and related documents for the construction of a new corporate headquarters office complex and access road located along US Route 119 in Boone County, West Virginia. The project was undertaken on the Design-Build method of delivery.

The overall project scope included the design of an approximately 4-acre site that overlooks US Route 119 in Boone County and included preliminary and final grading plans, storm water design including detention, utility design within the site, as well as a package treatment plant and force main effluent discharge line. The site design included internal roadway design, final paving and parking design, a helipad, decorative pond with fountain, security bollard system, walking track, and secondary service road design.

Additional responsibilities included the design of a new partially controlled access entrance, as well as northbound and southbound turn lanes on US Route 119 and an access road into the site. Working closely with the WVDOT and FHWA, it was determined to relocate the existing single lane, state-owned entrance and locate the new access road approximately 1000’ to the north due to poor sight distance as well as the owner’s preference to situate the building facing north. The new entrance location resulted in an approximately ½ mile long, two-lane roadway, widened to provide a turn lane at the US Route 119 tie-in.

Surveying services included horizontal and vertical control, additional mapping, and construction layout.

Highlights:

  • Acceleration/Deceleration Lanes on 4-Lane Highway
  • Median Cross-Over on 4-Lane Highway
