As part of the current six-year inspection program, the West Virginia Department of Transportation selected Randolph Engineering to provide an in-depth, arms-length inspection of a 6-span structure over the Clifford Hollow located along Appalachian Corridor G in Hardy County, West Virginia. The project scope included a detailed report complete with color photographs, condition sketches and maintenance recommendations.
Officially named the Wilbur Clayton Memorial Bridge, the bridge consists of 6 steel girder spans which carry US Route 48 in an east/west direction 300’ above Clifford Hollow and is located in rugged terrain. The bridge consists of 6 spans of Welded Steel Girder spans (210’, 275.5’, 275.5’, 275.5’, 275.5’, 210’) and totals 1522’ in length.
Randolph Engineering, through a subsidiary company, provided all access equipment, support personnel, and maintenance of traffic.
