As part of its ongoing bridge replacement program, the West Virginia Department of Transportation contracted with Randolph Engineering to design a replacement bridge for the existing one-lane, two-span concrete arch bridge spanning Mud Fork in Logan County, WV. The existing one-lane, two-span concrete arch bridge was rated structurally deficient and functionally obsolete due to inadequate lane width and severe deterioration.
Founded on integral abutments, the new bridge consists of a single span of 80’-0” utilizing 3-lines of 33” prestressed concrete box beams for the superstructure with a reinforced concrete deck. The bridge width is 28’-6” out-to-out and is located on a tangent alignment and on a 28 right forward degree skew.
The scope of work included approximately 150′ of approach roadway as well as the development of R/W plans, Temporary Traffic Control plans, and Permanent Traffic Control plans.
Surveying services included horizontal and vertical control as well as topographic mapping and hydraulic cross-sectioning of the stream. Post design services included shop drawing review.
