As part of its ongoing bridge replacement program, the West Virginia Department of Transportation contracted with Randolph Engineering to design a replacement bridge for the existing one-lane concrete bridge spanning Mud Fork in Logan County, WV. The existing one-lane, single-span concrete bridge was rated structurally deficient and functionally obsolete due to inadequate lane width and severe deterioration.
Founded on integral abutments, the new bridge consists of a single span of 54’-4” utilizing 11-lines of adjacent prestressed concrete box beams for the superstructure with and an asphalt overlay wearing surface. The bridge is 33’-7” out-to-out width and is located on a tangent alignment and on a 55-degree right forward skew.
The scope of work included approximately 150′ of approach roadway as well as the development of R/W plans and Temporary Traffic Control plans.
Surveying services included horizontal and vertical control as well as topographic mapping and hydraulic cross-sectioning of the stream. Post design services included shop drawing review.
