The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources contracted with Randolph Engineering to provide design services for 2 new pedestrian bridges and a scenic boardwalk, located within Camp Creek State Park, to replace bridges that were destroyed by floods.
The project consisted of the design and construction plans for 2 single span aluminum truss bridges (60’ & 42’) as well as a scenic boardwalk. Overall scope included stream hydraulic analysis, trail approaches, surveying and construction administration and monitoring.
One bridge spans the main channel of Camp Creek and provides access from the park amphitheater to the park offices. The second bridge spans a back channel of Camp Creek to an island and provides access to a 300’ long scenic boardwalk that terminates at an observation deck that overlooks Camp Creek.
The aluminum bridge alternates were chosen due their lightweight which allowed them to be set using an excavator, which was already on site, in lieu of a crane.
